Are you hosting an event in Newton? We've compiled a list of resources to help you advertise your event so you can have the greatest reach. This is not an all-inclusive list, but a good place to start.

Choose Newton Resources

Choose Newton Community Calendar

Choose Newton is home to the Newton Community Calendar. It is the one place to find all the events happening in Newton. There is no searching and no ads. Best of all, it is a free community resource. Choose Newton pulls events from the calendar to be featured on social media and their email newsletter.

Event Listing Information:

  • It is free to list an event
  • The sooner you submit your event the better! This helps other event organizers see what events are happening and gives you more marketing opportunities.
  • If you would like your event to be included on the monthly calendar, please make sure they are submitted at least a week before the month end. If your event is in March you should your event at least a week before the month ends in February.

Choose Newton CVB Event Marketing Grant

The Newton Convention & Visitor's Bureau offers Event Marketing Grants to help you get the word out about your event. Applications are accepted until mid January. If there are funds left over we will accept applications on a rolling basis. Not only do you receive a grant to help offset marketing expenses, you also receive the following marketing opportunities free of charge:

  • Event Listing on Travel KS calendar
  • Event Listing on Choose Newton Community Calendar
  • Event advertising on Choose Newton social media
  • Digital Billboard placement along I-135

Best of Newton Calendar

Each year Choose Newton produces a printed community calendar. The calendar features pictures from Newton on each month along with events throughout the community. In order for your event to be included in the calendar, events must be submitted by mid October. Events should be submitted at Choose-Newton.com/Events. This is a free resource.

Travel Kansas Calendar

We are able to list events on the Travel Kansas website calendar. This is a great way to advertise larger scale events that tourists or regional travelers might be interested in attending. If you wish to list your event on the Travel KS website please email ChooseNewton@NewtonKansas.com.

We are fortunate to have 2 wonderful newspapers in Newton. They both can also help you with paid advertising in their newspaper, other papers they work with, digital marketing, and more.

News Coverage

Sending a news release to regional media outlets can be an effective and cost-free way to spread the word about your event. Be sure to include all the relevant details (time, date, place, etc.) and make a compelling case for why they should care about your event.

Facebook

Facebook has become an increasingly popular venue for advertising events in Newton. While social media is free, it does come with some difficulties in making sure the algorithm shows your posts. 

A few helpful tips

  • Make sure to use an engaging picture
  • Reels and videos can increase engagement
  • Post regularly, this doesn't mean daily, find what works for you

Facebook Events - They can be helpful in getting people to see the event as their friends express interest in attending. You can also post updates that get pushed out to those interested and attending. 

Facebook Groups - There are lots of Facebook groups you can advertise in. We have listed a few local options below. Make sure to also think about groups that might fit your event (ex. running clubs for 5Ks, art groups for art themed events, etc). There are a lot of theme specific groups for the area, state, and even region if your event would draw from a distance.

Social Media

While Facebook tends to get the most traction in Newton there are a lot of social media options. Below are just a few options. While Facebook still holds the largest number of users and tends to be the most active, a good social media strategy typically encompasses a few platforms.

  • Instagram - predominately a photo sharing platform with short form video
  • Tik Tok - predominately a short form video platform
  • X (Twitter) - used for media and microblogging; offering short text updates
