Choose Newton Main Street and the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce are excited to start a Main Street Market on Third Thursday evenings. This is a great opportunity for makers, at home businesses, those interested in starting a business, and businesses located outside of Newton's Downtown area to get involved with Third Thursdays. You just need to complete an application and be accepted as a vendor. Applications will be reviewed as they are received and will fill slots on a first come first served basis.

The Main Street Makers Market is an initiative of the Main Street Promotions Committee. The Market will run from May-September on E 6th Street. There will be two start times to best fit vendor schedules, 3pm or 5pm, and run until 8pm. You can sign up for the Third Thursdays that work in your schedule, you do not need to commit to participate monthly.

Mission

The mission of the Main Street Maker's Market is to:

  • Support our local entrepreneurs by providing a space for direct-to-consumer sales
  • Provide a designated market space bringing local makers, creators, and producers to showcase their wears to community members, shoppers, and visitors who are looking for something unique
  • Provide more retail opportunities for Newton, Harvey County, and the surrounding region
  • Bolster ongoing efforts for Newton Downtown revitalization creating economic opportunities for current and future Downtown businesses
  • Be meaningful and impactful to current and future businesses owners in Newton and surrounding areas
  • Serve as a launching pad for young entrepreneurs
  • Enrich the cultural heritage of our community
  • Enhance qualify of life
  • Encourage cooperation from all sellers, buyers, downtown businesses, Choose Newton Main Street, Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, and volunteers to make it a success, realizing the value or working together for economic progress

Rules & Responsibilities

These are the general rules and responsibilities that we expect all vendors to follow:

  1. Vendors must pre-register and agree to market rules online.
  2. Applications are due by the Sunday before Third Thursday and maps will be sent out by noon on Tuesday.
  3. Vendors are expected to be good ambassadors for the market and Downtown Newton. 
  4. Selling techniques should be in good taste. Distracting or deterring customers from approaching another vendor's stall is discouraged. 
  5. Vendors should remain at the market until 8pm to avoid safety hazards for customers and vendors. 
  6. Vendors need to provide their own tables, chairs, tents, and display items. Displays should not be more than 10'x10'
  7. Set-up for the 3pm time will be closest to Main Street and can begin at 2:15pm.
  8. Set-up for the 5pm time will be furthest from Main Street and can begin at 4:15pm.
  9. Vendors should make sure their space is clean when they leave. Each vendor is responsible for their own property and any damage or injury their property may cause at the market. 
  10. The collection and submission of sales tax is the responsibility of each vendor selling produce or products in the market and Choose Newton Main Street and the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce are not responsible for any vendor's failure to collect and submit sales tax to the Kansas Department of Revenue.
  11. Use of tobacco, vaping, profane language, and drugs are not allowed. Socially acceptable behavior is expected.
  12. No MLM or Networking Businesses will be eligible to participate.
