On Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m., fine-art photographer Dale Strattman will join us at Newton Public Library to give a talk about his latest project, "The In-Between Moment."
Sometimes, photos can show a moment in time that reveals life as it's happening: a tiny segment of reality that usually passes unnoticed. Swiss photographer Robert Frank called this "The In-Between Moment." In an instant, a moment is captured when things aren't quite right, or when they are just exactly right. One of the unique capabilities of still photography is freezing these points in time.
"Many of these images were taken while just walking down the street," writes Dale. "None of them were planned or preconceived; they were a spontaneous reaction to life as it was happening. I am particularly attracted to universal subject matter: quiet moments, exciting events such as weddings, children as they play, people reading, and people on the street. These are once in lifetime moments, recorded and indefinitely preserved in silver."
Dale taught photography from 1972 to 2013, first at West and Northwest high schools in Wichita, then at Tabor College and Wichita State University. His work has appeared at Wichita State's Ulrich Museum, and in several solo shows at Wichita CityArts.
